Ed.D. Programs
Our 36-month Ed.D. program serves as a national model. Designed to meet the needs of mid-career professionals who are focused on organizational operations, it has been cited as a leading program in its class.
This weekend-based curriculum is offered through the college’s Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations (LPO) and the Department of Teaching and Learning. Candidates may pursue one of three specialties:
During the third year of course work, doctoral candidates complete a capstone experience. This independent research and analytic activity focuses on a problem of practice, drawn from suggestions by a national advisory panel.
Ed.D.’s award-winning faculty includes:
- Mark Berends, director of the first federally funded National Center on School Choice
- Janet Eyler, professor of the practice of education whose research focuses on program evaluation in human resource development
- James W. Guthrie, chair of LPO and director of the Peabody Center for Education Policy
- Steve Heyneman, a former World Bank researcher, trainer, and education policy and lending strategist and frequent international speaker
- Michael McLendon, the faculty advisor of the Washington Fellowship in Education Policy
- Thomas Smith, a principal investigator for a $2.5-million National Science Foundation grant, “Designing Learning Environments for Instructional Improvement in Mathematics”
