More than 60 percent of new students at Peabody College receive financial aid. The College sponsors several substantial scholarship programs with offerings that range from partial to full tuition, including several scholarships designated for students from minority groups. In addition, assistantships, traineeships, loans, and part-time employment are available.
Graduate students are awarded all merit-based aid (including, but not limited to, scholarships, grants, graduate research, and teaching assistantships) from their academic department. The Vanderbilt University Office of Student Financial Aid awards all forms of need-based aid, which include, but are not limited to Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Work Study, Federal Graduate PLUS Loans and Alternative Loans.
If you wish to apply for financial aid at Peabody College as a graduate/professional student, you must complete the Peabody College Application for Financial Aid, 2009-10 Vanderbilt Graduate and Professional Financial Aid Application, and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Aid is awarded at the college and university levels, which is why separate applications are necessary. (Note: The Peabody application is available anytime. The Vanderbilt Graduate and Professional application and the FAFSA application become available each January for the coming academic year.)
After your financial aid file is complete and eligibility for financial aid is determined, you will be notified of your financial aid award by letter from the appropriate offices.

Peabody College Application for Financial Aid
To apply for merit-based financial aid funds available through the College, all continuing and new Peabody graduate and professional students must complete the Peabody College Application for Financial Aid on-line. Since many students require more than one form of aid, you are urged to apply for as many sources of aid as possible. Within the application you may select up to twelve scholarships for consideration.
To receive priority consideration for Peabody College financial aid, applications should be submitted no later than February 1. This will ensure that your application will be reviewed in the first round of the award process. Applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed until all funds are expended.
Financial aid offers can be extended only after you are admitted to the College with all required admission materials on file. Initial offers will be mailed in April (or earlier if possible). Each financial aid award is for one academic year, unless otherwise specified. A new financial aid application is required each year.
Occasionally departments will not know until the summer or fall if grant funds will be available for some traineeships or research assistantships. Students will be notified of these grant positions as soon as possible after monies become available.
Need-based financial aid is available from federal and limited state programs to those who apply and qualify. Eligibility is based on the difference between the amount the student is expected to pay (EFC), any additional financial aid resources and the total cost of attendance. Any U.S. citizen or permanent resident, who is accepted for admission in a degree seeking program, enrolled at least half-time and who demonstrates financial need is eligible to apply. Students are eligible to annually apply for need-based aid if they are in good academic standing and are making satisfactory academic progress.
All U.S. citizens or permanent residents seeking federal aid and/or a graduate, research, or teaching assistantship must complete the 2009-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the 2009-10 Vanderbilt Graduate/Professional Financial Aid Application in addition to the Peabody College Financial Aid Application.
Click here to go to the Vanderbilt Financial Aid Application for Graduate and Professional Students and Instructions beginning February 15, 2009.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) also must be completed by new students on-line or via paper form.
Click here for FAFSA on the web or contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for a paper form.
Federal aid includes the Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Work Study, and Federal Graduate PLUS Loans.
Returning graduate students are eligible to complete and submit the Renewal FAFSA on the Web. A PIN is required to enter data on the 2007-2008 Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If a prior PIN is lost or forgotten the student may request a duplicate PIN at the following URL: www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp. The PIN serves as the student’s electronic signature and should never be disclosed or shared with anyone. Whether completing a Renewal or regular FAFSA, students must enter the Vanderbilt Federal School Code, 003535.
