The Department of Teaching and Learning is currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor of the Practice (non-tenure track) in English Education/Adolescent Literacy. Practice faculty members are individuals with extensive professional experience and a primary commitment to teacher preparation programs. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in an area relevant to English Education and adolescent literacy, experience in teaching English at the secondary level, and a demonstrated ability for program leadership and development.
The successful candidate will assume leadership with both practice and tenure-track faculty to enhance the coherence and intellectual depth of the English Education licensure programs at the undergraduate and masters levels. The candidate should have demonstrated skill in teaching courses central to the English Education teacher education programs, and should be prepared to design new courses and advise students. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarship of the practice, the products of which might include publications, teacher development resources (video cases, libraries of student work), and other artifacts demonstrating influence on teacher education at the local, state, or national levels.
The Department is known for its work in many areas, including literacy education, mathematics education, and teacher education. The Department offers programs leading to teacher licensure for both undergraduate and graduate students in early childhood, elementary, and secondary education.
