Researchers Probe Pay Incentives for Teachers
The Department of Teaching and Learning of Peabody College at Vanderbilt University invites applications for an open rank tenure-track position in Language, Literacy & Culture education with an emphasis on the elementary level, beginning fall 2010.
The Department seeks an individual with a strong research program or the clear potential for one that focuses on the learning and teaching of reading and is capable of contributing to the preparation of students to teach elementary school-aged children. The Department prefers individuals with research interests that focus on one or more of the following: reading instruction in school settings, social and cognitive aspects of learning to read in classroom settings, reading assessment, reading teacher education, and literacy coaching. Applicants for the position at a junior level should have: an earned doctorate in literacy education or a related field; a demonstrated commitment to teacher education; and the promise of a strong research program. Applicants for the position at a senior level should also have an established record of external funding. Although applicants' research interests may be diverse, they should be able to contribute to the conceptualization and development of literacy courses in an innovative teacher education program connecting reading education with urban education, teaching English language learners, and digital literacies. The Peabody environment is one in which collaboration is highly valued and in which there are many opportunities to work with members of other program areas. The successful applicant will teach graduate and undergraduate courses and advise students. Applications will be reviewed beginning October 15, 2009, and will continue until the position is filled.
Please submit application materials electronically to Ms. Abby Keel at abby.keel@Vanderbilt.Edu. The materials should include a letter of interest, no more than two publications (or manuscripts in progress), and current vita. In addition, please arrange for three referees to send letters of reference to Deborah Rowe, Chair, Language, Literacy & Culture Education Search Committee; Peabody Station Box 230; Vanderbilt University; Nashville, TN 37203. Inquiries should be sent to deborah.rowe@vanderbilt.edu.
