About the Program

The IPEP is an interdepartmental community of scholars. The program supplements coursework and seminars offered by individual departments. The IPEP is not a free-standing degree program. Students participating in the program must be admitted to an existing Peabody department, which will serve as their home department. Departments may conceptualize the IPEP as a minor, a specialization or core component of a major program of study, or simply consider the coursework part of electives used to individualize your program of study.

Students in the IPEP:

  • Complete a four-year sequence of coursework and seminars totaling 16 credit hours.
  • Participate in periodic extracurricular colloquia and social events featuring experts on learning, measurement, or assessment.
  • Present a proposed or completed research project during Year Four of the program.

Program coursework typically includes: the history of educational psychology, theories of learning (including developmental and contextual considerations), learning research, measurement theory, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, testing theory and scale development, assessment methods, and measurement paradigms in literacy, math/science, and social behavior research.

To enhance your learning experience, you will be advised by the program director and program coordinator who can help expand research and professional opportunities.
