Upon entering the M.Ed. program in Higher Education Administration, you will be able to choose from one of four concentrations: institutional advancement, student affairs, service learning, or general higher education administration. Your classroom time will be enhanced by a field placement or practicum and will be complemented by ample opportunity to interact with practicing professionals in colleges and universities around the world. If you choose the institutional advancement concentration, you also will have the opportunity to select practica and course work leading to an advancement career in an independent school, or in a variety of non-profit organizations including those focused on the arts, education, or human services. The programs are designed to prepare individuals to enter school administration, college and university administration, or to work in corporate settings.
The M.Ed. program in Human Resource Development will prepare you for a professional position designing, implementing, and evaluating learning programs within businesses and other organizations. In addition to being able to deliver effective instruction, you will be prepared to devise methods, procedures, and programs to improve the quality of work life, facilitate change, and increase productivity and satisfaction for organization employees. This program combines course work, field work, and consultation with practicing professionals to prepare you for a position in human resource development or to enhance your skills if you seek career advancement.
While the distinction between K-12 and higher education is well understood by individuals interested in U.S. education issues, outside of our nation's context, the division is not recognized. The master's degree program in International Education Policy and Management (IEPM) is designed for those individuals interested in studying education within a broad international context. Students in the IEPM program have varied academic interests and career paths ranging from international development assistance and work with foundations to international education programs and international education policy at universities in the U.S. or abroad.
The M.Ed. program in Organizational Leadership will prepare you for leadership positions in the private sector, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. As a student in this program, you will come to understand the social and political context of organizational decision-making issues. Additionally, you will develop the skills necessary to manage organizational change and development, as well as conduct research and evaluations within organizations. Your program of study will include a practicum in which you will apply what you have learned in an organizational setting.
