Peabody's master of education program in Elementary Education will help you develop a substantive knowledge base in various areas of elementary education. Course work is designed to instill advanced competencies in areas ranging from children's literature, language and literacy, cultural diversity, mathematics and science education. Programs of study are planned in consultation with your adviser and can be highly individualized to meet your specific needs and career goals.
Major Requirements (15 semester hours)
Select from among the following categories:
Curriculum and Instructional Design (at least 3 semester hours)
Field Work (at least 3 semester hours)
Any practicum or field experience
Teaching Methods (9 semester hours)
At least one course from three different areas
Mathematics
Language Arts
Reading
Science
Social Studies
English Language Learners
Electives (6 semester hours)
Professional Education Core (9 semester hours)
Total is 30 semester hours minimum
Note: Through the use of carefully selected electives and major courses, students are able to concentrate study in a specific area of specialization. Examples of possible specializations are Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics Education, Science Education, and English Language Learners.
