Reading Education (M.Ed.)
Peabody's master of education program in Reading Education is designed to focus on developmental reading and on diagnosis and correction of reading disabilities. The program meets standards suggested by the International Reading Association and NCATE accrediting standards. Through course selection, an add-on endorsement as a reading specialist can be achieved. Programs can be designed to fit individual students' interest and career goals.
Major Requirements (15 semester hours)
Foundations or Survey of Reading (6 hours required)
- EDUC 3370 Literacy Assessment and Professional Development
- EDUC 3380 Seminar in Language and Literacy Education
- EDUC 3390 Literacy Development
- EDUC 3440 Issues and Trends in Literacy Instruction
- ENED 3400 Teaching Reading in the Content Areas
Diagnosis and Correction of Reading Disabilities (3 hours required)
- EDUC 3420 Literacy for Diverse and Special Needs Learners
Practicum in Reading (3 hours required)
- EDUC 3953 Practicum in Reading Education
- EDUC 3430 Diverse and Special Needs Learners Practicum (must take Ed 3420 in conjunction)
Language Development and Language Arts (3 hours required)
- EDUC 3450 Psycholinguistics Aspects of Language and Literacy
- EDUC 3460 Teaching and Learning the Language Arts: Theory and Research
- ENED 3040 Perspectives on the English Language
