Peabody's master of education program in Reading Education is designed to focus on developmental reading and on diagnosis and correction of reading disabilities. The program meets standards suggested by the International Reading Association and NCATE accrediting standards. Through course selection, an add-on endorsement as a reading specialist can be achieved. Programs can be designed to fit individual students' interest and career goals.
Major Requirements (15 semester hours)
Foundations or Survey of Reading (6 hours required)
Diagnosis and Correction of Reading Disabilities (3 hours required)
Practicum in Reading (3 hours required)
Language Development and Language Arts (3 hours required)
Electives (6 semester hours)
Courses from the following or other courses with consent of adviser:
Through careful course selection from the Professional Core area and electives, an added endorsement in English Language Learners may also be earned.
