Program Details
The institute begins on Sunday, July 6, 2008, and runs through Thursday, July 10, 2008. The program contains two instructional components: lectures, panel presentations, and speakers, which comprise two thirds of the institute’s activities; and group work focused on case study analyses and preparation for the following day’s activities.
Individual sessions consist of in-depth examinations of library management in the context of higher education, discussions surrounding the application of theoretical literature to college and university libraries, and group discussion/presentations. During the course of the institute, participants will spend considerable time engaged in small group discussions which integrate lectures and panel presentations. This experience will allow each participant to discover, develop, and refine individual competencies.
The summer institute is an intensive experience designed to challenge participants intellectually. Each participant will receive materials prior to the institute with which they should be familiar upon arrival. Effective preparation will ensure a rewarding experience for all participants. Total preparation time includes approximately ten hours of reading. Additionally, in order to tailor the institute to those in the cohort, a brief questionnaire will be distributed concerning current issues facing the participant’s home library.
