Working closely with faculty, students learn how to think critically and how to approach and re-approach challenges until they reach successful outcomes.
Our graduates go on to effect systemic change in schools, policy-making settings, social service agencies, and Fortune 500 companies.
Peabody alumni care deeply about the well being of others. Hands-on classroom experience, early on, makes our teaching graduates confident professionals who stay in teaching at a rate 50 percent higher than the national average. Our doctoral graduates can be found in key government, policy, and academic positions. Across the board, our alumni serve their professions and communities in remarkable ways, and have helped Peabody build a nationwide reputation for excellence.
One example: 2005 graduate Adam Riley. As a human capital analyst with Deloitte Consulting LLP in Atlanta, Adam designs, develops, and delivers training to national clients. He credits Peabody’s “interactive, dynamic, cutting-edge, and forward-thinking” program with preparing him to fulfill his goals beginning the first day on the job. “If I had only one word to describe my professors, it would be accessible,” writes Adam. “Peabody also embodies the newest in learning theory through its innovative approach to learning in the classroom—an approach I am now easily able to apply to my clients.” Adam received a master’s degree in human resource development in the Department of Leadership, Policy and Organizations.
For students interested in careers as researchers and scholars, Peabody offers numerous opportunities. Of the top five schools of education in the United States, Peabody College ranks 3rd in the amount of funded research awarded for the past three years, with an average of $22.2 million per year. Working as team members on leading-edge research, our graduate students gain valuable experience and a singular chance to contribute to their chosen fields. Even before graduating, they earn recognition. Case in point: Jonathan Wai, a graduate student in psychology, received the MENSA Education & Research Foundation’s Early Career Award for Excellence in Research for 2005-06.
Leaders need to understand how theory and practice intersect. Read more about how Peabody professors and students do this.
After graduation, Chris Barbic, B.S. ’92, went on to found and head YES College Preparatory Schools for at-risk Latinos in Houston, Texas.
