Special Education Researchers Receive Grants from NICHD, IES; Seethaler Wins CEC Award
Special Education faces an increasing shortage of university faculty, a situation that is predicted to worsen over the next decade. For students with severe disabilities/autism, the situation is especially alarming. These students constitute a very heterogeneous group of individuals who require intensive, high-quality supports to be successful. In addition, the prevalence of this disability is growing at an unprecedented rate, making shortages in teachers and university/college faculty all the more significant to address.
Therefore, a substantial need exists for university/college faculty who can develop the next generation of evidence-based practices for students with severe disabilities/autism. In particular, this grant is designed to produce the next generation of university/college faculty to (a) conduct intervention research on methods of delivering effective educational supports, (b) translate research findings into practices for use by interdisciplinary teams, and (c) train direct support providers in evidence-based practices to improve educational outcomes.
