Special Education Researchers Receive Grants from NICHD, IES; Seethaler Wins CEC Award
The Department of Special Education's Program in Early Childhood Special Education has received federal funds to prepare individuals at the master's degree level to work with young children who have autism spectrum disorders and their families. The program is designed for individuals with bachelor's degrees in special education and related fields. Priority is given to individuals with teacher licensure (certification), but all interested individuals are encouraged to apply.
The program is a two-year program designed to prepare leaders to provide direct services to young children with autism and their families, consult with other professionals who are teaching young children with autism, and consume and apply research in their practice. Upon completion, students will be recommended for teacher licensure in early childhood special education in the state of Tennessee.
Program activities include (a) research-based course work in early childhood special education; (b) weekly seminar on autism and leadership; (c) field-based experiences in autism; (d) course work in autism; and (e) an applied research thesis study.
Support provided:
Individuals must hold a bachelor's degree, and individuals must meet Peabody College's admission requirements.
