Special Education Researchers Receive Grants from NICHD, IES; Seethaler Wins CEC Award
The Program in Visual Disabilities in the Department of Special Education is pleased to announce receipt of a federal grant to prepare teachers of students who are blind or visually impaired (children with low vision and blindness). The program seeks general education and special education teachers interested in opportunities to:
• Learn how to assess and provide quality instruction in the content areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum
• Learn to read and write with Braille
• Learn about eye conditions and their implications for education
• Learn to perform essential assessments such as the functional vision assessment, learning media assessment, and assessment in needed Expanded Core Curriculum content areas
• Learn about orientation and mobility
• Learn about access technology
• Learn about methods of teaching children who are blind
• Learn to teach the use of optical devices to children with low vision
The program includes:
• Full tuition traineeships available leading to an M.Ed. degree
• Admission for fall or spring semesters
• Part-time and full-time opportunities
• Classes beginning at 4:10 PM
• Flexible practicum experiences for fall, spring, and summer sessions
