One of the advantages of having a connected campus is the ability to "move things around" the network.
This means that you don't have to carry diskettes to move your data and papers from place to place!
Every Vanderbilt student is eligible to get 100 MB of network file storage for free - VUspace. If you need more space, you can buy more for a small fee.
You can save files in your VUspace just as you would on a diskette, and then retrieve them later anywhere on campus. You sign on to VUspace with your VUnet ID and e-password, so your files are only available to you. Make sure to sign off when you are finished.
You may find it convenient to back up your important papers and data on VUspace - as well as traditional methods such as diskettes and CDs. Never have your important files in only one place!
You can use your VUspace to publish web pages. You should create a new folder within your VUspace and name it "public_web". Anything you put in that folder will be viewable over the Internet - but anything not in the folder will still be available only to you.
Your web pages will be named in the format:
http://people.vanderbilt.edu/~VUnetID/filename.html
or
http://people.vanderbilt.edu/~BCA/filename.html
