Often the data stored on a computer are more important and valuable than the machine itself. Hundreds or thousands of hours or work and information can be lost in an instant. The PTSC offers data backup services for all college-owned computers. The backup system, administered by CSA II Michael Gaines, uses Retrospect software to automatically back up desktop machines overnight and laptops during daytime hours. The initial backup of a system includes virtually all files. Incremental backups are performed on a nightly basis to save and document file updates.
If your Peabody College-owned computer is not on the backup system, you are urged to contact the Local Support Provider (LSP) for your area. He/she will install the proper software and work with Michael Gaines to configure the computer for regular backup. If you wait until the hard drive crashes or your laptop is dropped or stolen, you will have waited too late.
