Peabody Access Control System (PACS)
Peabody College leads the Vanderbilt campus and most colleges and universities nationwide with the installation of electronic building and room access control on more than 110 doors and three elevators. In several ways, the Peabody Access Control System (PACS) provides increased security for the members of our community, our visitors, our spaces, and our equipment:
- Users are issued access cards or fobs rather than keys. If a card or fob is misplaced or stolen, the device can be instantly disabled. As a result, doors do not have to be re-keyed.
- The system administrators can program doors to be unlocked on numerous schedules. For example, exterior doors are unlocked at various times taking into account classes, special events, holidays, weekends, and semester breaks.
- Classrooms remain locked at all times. However, instructors and teaching assistants can enter whenever they need to do so and can prop open doors during classrooms. Once a class is over, the door is locked as soon as the prop is removed.
- In case of an emergency situation, all controlled doors can be locked to provide additional security to building occupants.
- Access to card or fob holders can be configured for appropriate dates/times, as well as, for groups of doors or elevator floors.
Prox cards/key fobs are issued to members of the Peabody community and other authorized users on an as-needed basis. The cards issued to faculty and staff admit them to their buildings during non-business hours and to other rooms as their duties require. Some teaching assistants, graduate assistants, and research assistants are also issued cards if they need to have access to buildings and work areas during non-business hours.
The PACS is administered by Bill Corbin, Director of the Peabody Technology Support Center, and Brian Smokler, Manager of Instructional Systems for the PTSC. The issuance of prox cards/key fobs is distributed in this manner:
- Faculty, staff, and assistants housed in buildings on the PACS -- Contact your department's or center's Administrative Officer
- Instructors and Teaching Assistants -- Contact Rob Dauphinee in the Office of the Peabody Registrar
- Event organizers and caterers -- Contact Helen Gleason, Peabody Director of Events
- Plant Ops, Housekeeping, contractors -- Contact Bill Corbin or Brian Smokler
You may report a problem with doors or elevators on the PACS to Bill Corbin or Brian Smokler.
