As was mentioned briefly on our home page, PTSC personnel assist faculty and staff in the use of the most appropriate technologies to support their funded and unfunded research projects. Given the demands made on our staff by their other duties, the primary thrust is to provide pre-award technology consultation, training, non-specialized equipment, desktop/laptop and peripheral device maintenance, network connectivity, and other expertise to assist researchers who have externally funded or non-funded projects.
The PTSC also provides post-award support including data hosting, equipment and software configuration, purchase and installation, training in video/audio capture, editing, and compression, server configuration, and other services as resources allow. Projects that require significant technology support should budget for dedicated personnel. The PTSC staff will be happy to assist in getting such staff oriented to VU and PTSC systems.
Critical to the PTSC's ability to support these projects is our participation in pre-award proposal development and budgeting. We share expertise in a number of areas that allow prospective principal investigators to make informed decisions related to personnel, equipment, and software.
One service provided by the PTSC is the hosting and administration of the Peabody Research Storage Array (PRSA). It is a "big iron" solution for researchers with large-scale storage and access needs. More information on the PRSA is available on our site
Current and prospective investigators whose projects use technologies should contact Bill Corbin or Ralph Knapp by email or phone to set up advisory meetings with members of the PTSC Staff. Contact information for Bill and the other members of the PTSC staff is found here.
