Safety Policy for Domestic Travel With Students
The University adopted a policy on domestic travel with students in Fall 2013. This policy requires that faculty planning to travel with students off-campus on domestic trips have their travel plans reviewed if the travel involves more than minimal risk (which among other things could involve travelling more than an hour by automobile). In most cases travel plans can be reviewed and approved by the instructor’s department chair, but it could involve review by an associate dean or a University-wide committee. This page contains links to a statement of this policy and a checklist that should be consulted by instructors planning domestic student travel to determine whether a review is warranted and at what level.
Please note that student international travel is governed by a different set of policies found here: www.vanderbilt.edu/vio/travel/student-travel-policy.php. These policies are administered through the Vanderbilt International Office (www.vanderbilt.edu/vio/).
