Ed.D. Programs
Our 36-month Ed.D. program serves as a national model. Designed to meet the needs of mid-career professionals who are focused on organizational operations, it has been cited as a leading program in its class.
This weekend-based curriculum is offered through the college’s Department of Leadership, Policy and Organizations. Candidates may pursue one of two tracks:
- K-12 Educational leadership and policy—prepares students to lead educational organizations, administer central offices, and serve as association executives, government officials and private sector consultants. Explore the program curriculum on the LPO department site.
- Higher education leadership and policy—equips practitioners to operate colleges and universities, government agencies, professional associations and consulting companies. Explore the program curriculum on the LPO department site.
During the third year of course work, doctoral candidates complete a capstone experience. This independent research and analytic activity focuses on a problem of practice, drawn from suggestions by a national advisory panel.
Our award-winning faculty includes:
- Ellen Goldring, Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Educational Policy and Leadership; Department Chair, Leadership, Policy, and Organizations
- William Doyle, researches higher education policy at the state and federal level and uses theoretical and methodological insights from political science to better understand both higher education politics and policy
- Steve Heyneman, a former World Bank researcher, trainer, and education policy and lending strategist and frequent international speaker
- Michael McLendon, associate dean and chief of staff, Peabody College and associate professor of higher education
- Thomas Smith, a principal investigator for a $2.5-million National Science Foundation grant, “Designing Learning Environments for Instructional Improvement in Mathematics”
