Carolyn Breda, Ph.D., is a Senior Research Associate at the Center for Evaluation and Program Improvement and an Adjunct Professor of Sociology. Dr. Breda earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Vanderbilt University. Since affiliating with the Institute, she has conducted research and published in the areas of education and mental health policy. She was an analyst for one of the most definitive studies of the effects of class size on student achievement--Project STAR, and was principally responsible for developing one of the largest databases on children's mental health services-- the Fort Bragg Evaluation Project. She has been a Principal Investigator on federally-funded projects, including a study of the role of the juvenile court in identifying and responding to mental health needs of offenders and a study of the physical, mental, social, and family health outcomes of wartime deployments among military families. Dr. Breda is currently Project Manager of a study supported by the NIMH that examines the effects on counselors and clients of feedback about their therapeutic alliance. She also enjoys teaching sociology at various colleges and universities in the Nashville area.
