Beginning Teachers in Independent Schools
The Peabody Professional Institute for Beginning Teachers in Independent Schools is a one-week, intensive, pre-service training and professional development program for new or early career teachers (0-5 years).
A masterful classroom requires attention to classroom management starting with the first days of school, with lesson design and instructional strategies that build throughout the year. Today, there is a rich knowledge base of research related to these areas from which teachers can draw and build.
This institute provides participants with opportunities to formulate or refine a vision for teaching while gaining classroom management knowledge and skills, strengthening content-specific instructional effectiveness, and increasing knowledge about the context of independent schools. Designed for current and aspiring elementary, middle and high school teachers in math, science, and the humanities (including English, history, language arts, and foreign languages), the institute will be of particular value to individuals with baccalaureate or advanced degrees in a content-specific discipline who lack pedagogical training or classroom preparation and seek support as they transition into the profession. The institute will offer practical insights to assist participants as they begin building a foundation for a successful career in independent schools.
