Class size, salary plan disregards expert studies
If charter schools are the future of Nashville education, they deserve a closer look
The program in higher education administration is designed for those students who wish to enter administrative roles in colleges and universities. Students may specialize in student affairs, enrollment management, higher education policy, international higher education, or general administration. Many students will pursue dual specializations over the course of their program of study. Course work for each specialization totals 36 hours and may be completed over a two-year period. Many courses meet in a weekend format to allow an administrative professional to pursue a master's degree without leaving the workforce. Your classroom time will be enhanced by a field placement or practicum and will be complemented by ample opportunity to interact with practicing professionals in colleges and universities around the world.
Student Affairs
College students and their families today view themselves as consumers, and so institutions must continuously analyze and upgrade their services to students. The personnel services specialization prepares students for positions related to housing, student and Greek life, multicultural affairs, international student services, and admissions.
Enrollment Management
The enrollment management concentration enables students to understand how the tools and techniques of enrollment management can help to recruit, admit and graduate students in a way that enhances the educational mission of an institution of higher education. Students in this concentration will study both the practical implementation of enrollment management and the broader strategic concerns that enrollment managers need to be aware of. Graduates of this program will be prepared for work in admissions offices, development, student affair or institutional research, among other career options.
Higher Education Policy
The higher education policy concentration provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to understand the complex interrelationship between state, local and federal government and institutions of higher education. Students in this concentration will study both key aspects of higher education management and education policymaking more broadly. This concentration prepares students for careers in governmental affairs, policy positions in government agencies, or policy research organizations, among other possibilities.
International Higher Education
The concentration in international higher education provides students with an understanding of the rapidly globalization of higher education. Students will study both domestic higher education and international higher education, giving them a unique perspective on the changing nature of higher education at home and abroad. Graduates of this program will be prepared for a wide variety of positions, particularly in institutions that are seeking to broaden their international impact.
General Administration
For those who know they want to pursue a career in higher education administration but are not yet ready to commit to a specific area, the general higher education administration specialization offers a valuable overview of this dynamic field and ample room for exploration.
