Program Details

The institute begins on Monday evening, June 25, 2012, and ends Friday afternoon, June 29, 2012. The program contains two instructional components: lectures, presentations, and speakers which comprise the majority of daytime activities; and evening group work focused on case study analyses and preparation for the following day's activities. Daily sessions consist of in-depth examinations of several key functional areas of independent school management, discussions surrounding the application of theoretical literature to effective school operation, and group discussion/presentations.

The summer institute is an intensive experience designed to challenge participants intellectually and sharpen the skill sets of administrative teams. Prior to the institute, each participant will receive materials with which they should be familiar upon arrival. Effective preparation will ensure a rewarding experience for all participants. Total preparation time includes approximately ten hours of reading. Additionally, to tailor the institute to those in the cohort, a brief questionnaire will be distributed concerning current issues facing each participant's school.

Individuals selected to participate in each institute will be recognized with the title "Summer Fellow of Peabody College" for the year they are selected. Fellows will join the ranks of other Peabody and Vanderbilt alumni who are leaders in the fields of education and human development throughout the world.
