PSY 310
Research Methods in Clinical Psychology
Description:
This course is an introduction to major methodological issues encountered in clinical research. The choice of topics covered reflects my belief that many of the central methodological issues faced by clinical psychologists: 1. are not unique to clinical psychology (or even, in some cases, to the field of psychology); and, 2. are rooted in more fundamental conceptual issues. Concerning the first point, the class will often focus on issues, and examples, that are relevant to a variety of content domains. Concerning the second point, the class will focus on conceptual issues that underlie what might initially appear to be "only" problems of design or analysis. The content of the course also reflects my belief that most methodological problems require at least some quantitative analysis in order for precise delineation of the issues. Thus, while this is not formally a statistics class, statistical concepts and results are frequently introduced.
