The National Center on School Choice announces its second national invitational conference, which will examine choice as it occurs in specific contexts and locales. In keeping with the center's mission, the conference will bring together exemplary research on school choice options. In particular, the conference will examine how communities, districts and states implement choice as a strategy for improving schools and student outcomes. Topics to be discussed include publicly funded voucher programs, charter schools, Latino parent choice, urban district choice, competition effects, choice in international contexts, and much more. Featured keynote speakers are Paul Vallas, superintendent of the Recovery School District of New Orleans, and Professor Henry Levin, the William H Kilpatrick Professor of Economics and Education at Teachers College and Director of the National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education.. Following the Conference, there will be an online discussion to revisit some key topics addressed by conference panelists.
The National Center on School Choice conducts scientific, comprehensive, and timely studies on school choice to inform policy and practice. The Center neither advocates nor opposes school choice. Rather it exercises national leadership in coordinating multiple disciplines, research methodologies, and substantive issues associated with the design, implementation, and effects of school choice. The Center is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, of the U.S. Department of Education.
