Kathleen Lane is an Assistant Professor in the Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Prior to entering academia, Professor Lane served as a classroom teacher of general and special education students for five years and provided consultation, intervention, and staff development services to five schools districts in Southern California for two years in her role as a Program Specialist.
Professor Lane's research interests focus on investigating the relationship between academic underachievement and externalizing behaviors with children with or at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders (E/BD). She has conducted several school-based interventions examining the impact of improved early literacy skills on academic and socio-behavioral outcomes for young children at risk for E/BD. She has also conducted studies aimed at identifying those social skills teachers view as essential for success in the school setting.
