Short Biography
John Robert (Bob) Newbrough is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Human and Organizational Development. He has been in Nashville since 1966 when he was recruited to Peabody College from the National Institute of Mental Health by Nicholas Hobbs. He came to establish the Center for Community Studies as an institute of the John F. Kennedy Center for Research on Mental Retardation and Human Development.
I have organized my thinking in terms of the local community as a social structure through which daily life is organized. I have brought together ecology and systems theory as ways to think about "the contextualized (or environmentalized) human person." I have approached that issue from the need to solve the paradox of the individual and the collectivity.
