Professor LeCompte writes:
I have the honor of being a teacher, parent and wife. My son, Brandon, is a freshman at Independence High School in Williamson County. My husband, Randy, is a service writer for Nelson Mazda. We moved to Tennessee from Texas. We have a Beagle named Ozzy. Cuteness is the best thing Ozzy has going for him.
The moral dimensions of teaching are inescapable. When a teacher practices their craft, a whole array of moral choices and decisions come into play. What is omitted from a curriculum can be just as consequential as what is included. Teachers have a tremendous effect on the presentation of information. Teaching cannot help but be informed by values and guided by normative principles.
Collaboration is a key characteristic of my philosophy of teaching. Necessary collaborations comprise a robust teacher education program. They include the need for university faculties in both schools of education and the arts and sciences to work together with educators in elementary and secondary schools for the renewal of both teacher education programs and K-12 schools. Further this collaboration needs to be simultaneous, meaning that each piece needs to be aware of the others needs (Goodlad, 2004, 22).
Excellence in every aspect of my work is the standard that I set. This takes dedication, reflection, and careful use of time. Life as a teacher is a journey. It is complicated, challenging, and filled with rewards.
