Professor Sanders joined the faculty in Teaching and Learning at Vanderbilt University in the fall of 2002. Her research, policy, and teaching interests include early childhood intervention and curriculum, programs, and classroom practices for young children birth through age five. She recently (2007) published an article in Dimensions for Early Childhood titled "Responsive Infant Caregiving: Eight Proven Practices".
Prior to joining the Vanderbilt faculty, Professor Sanders worked as a member of the Early Head Start National Resource Center @ ZERO TO THREE. She worked alongside federal staff in the Dallas Regional Office for the Administration for Children and Families to provide a greater knowledge base and capacity around infant-toddler issues related to quality program planning and operation.
Sanders chairs the Advisory Council of the Susan Gray School and serves on the Advisory Board for the Nashville Area Association for the Education of Young Children (NAAEYC). She currently reviews books and articles as a member of NAEYC's Consulting Editors Panel. Furthermore, Professor Sanders speaks at state, regional, and national conferences on early childhood topics including reflective practices in early childhood teacher education and quality early childhood curriculum.
