Guangxi autonomous region in southern China (bordering Vietnam) is an area steeped in history, beauty, and a rich culture. However, it has largely missed out on the rapid economic growth along China’s increasingly affluent coast.
The Center for Community Studies is seeking students to participate in a 6-to-12-week Fieldschool experience in intercultural action-research and education in China during the summer of 2007. Students from any social science or professional program at any level are eligible to participate. Those in the community studies (CRA and CDA) graduate programs in the Department of Human & Organizational Development are especially encouraged to participate.
The 2007 fieldschool will focus on some combination of socio-cultural, health promotion, economic, educational, and urban/regional planning aspects of community development. Several potential Chinese collaborators have been identified, each with different proposed projects under development. Choice and details of projects are yet to be determined (students are welcome to help in the decision and planning based on their particular interests).
