Although her undergraduate career began at The College of New Jersey, Michele Athay graduated summa cum laude from Middle Tennessee State University in 2006 with a B.S. in Psychology. She entered Vanderbilt’s Psychology and Human Development department in the Quantitative Methods and Evaluation Ph.D. program to continue her education under the guidance of Dr. Len Bickman. She is currently a trainee on the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Research Training Grant sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
Her main research interests are in the area of child and adolescent mental health with a specific interest in the topic of eating disorders. She is also engaged with research concerning faith and spiritually as well the issues related to youth with Serious Emotional Disturbance transitioning to independence. Although a self-professed believer in mixed-methods, Michele enjoys the quantitative aspects of research and continues to increase her knowledge and skills in that area.
Michele has lived in Nashville since 2004 and despite her allegiance to the west coast (she grew up in Seattle), she now calls Tennessee home and will admit she enjoys living here in the south, even if it is not near an ocean!
