Educational Leadership Learning Exchange

ELLE

Educational Leadership Learning Exchange (ELLE) is a partnership between Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, South China Normal University, and Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College

Background
ELLE was started in 2005 with the goal of creating a mutually beneficial collaboration between school principals from the U.S. and China. Reciprocal visits between Nashville and Guangzhou pave the way for knowledge sharing and increased understanding. Participants discuss best practices and innovative ideas in education reform with their international counterparts. The program provides an international perspective for principal leadership development through three main avenues: lectures on learning-centered leadership by university faculty, visits to local area schools, and cultural activities.

Purpose
The aims of the ELLE partnership is to draw upon the program participants’ vast professional experiences, identify best practices from each school, and find elements that are transferable to each system. ELLE provides a much needed format through which principals across cultures can discuss common issues and challenges.
