Welcome to the Special Education M.Ed. program at Vanderbilt University!
On behalf of my colleagues, congratulations on your admission! We are a collaborative community committed to improving the education, opportunities, and lives of individuals with disabilities - from birth through adulthood - and their families. Our master's students have the opportunity to contribute to and engage in cutting-edge research projects, collaborate with faculty on innovative initiatives, enjoy applied field experiences in diverse settings, and participate alongside a cohort of other students who share the same passion and commitment.
We are so glad you have chosen to join us. You have made the right choice!
Vanderbilt University is in the top tier of national universities, and Peabody College is repeatedly ranked as one of the top education programs in the country. In addition, our department has been ranked as the top special education program in the country for more than a decade. During your time in the Department of Special Education, you will have the opportunity to learn from leaders in the field, as well as collaborate with Kennedy Center Members and Investigators. There is no other place quite like Vanderbilt.
Students from all of our master's programs (i.e., Early Childhood, Interventionist Specialist, Severe Disabilities, and Visual Disabilities) may also work toward becoming an Applied Behavior Analyst. In the Department of Special Education, all of our students will work closely with peers within their programs, while networking and socializing with students from across the department. Our graduates go on to rewarding careers and leadership roles in schools, agencies, and organizations all across the country.
Not only will the department and college provide you with endless opportunities to grow professionally and personally, but you will also enjoy living in and exploring all of the things Nashville has to offer. From great entertainment and experiences through music, sports, outdoor activities, and endless restaurants, you will be happy to call Nashville your new home.
Please let us know what we can do to help ease your transition. Again, welcome to the Department of Special Education at Vanderbilt University. If you have any questions about your admission, do not hesitate to contact me (615.322.8898; alexandra.dafonte@vanderbilt.edu).
Sincerely,
Alexandra Da Fonte, Ph.D.
