Congratulations on your admissions to the Master's Program in Elementary Education at Vanderbilt! We are delighted about the prospect of you joining our community. Our program is distinguished by its close-knit community as evidenced by a strong cohort model and a high degree of student-to-faculty interaction.

This is an exciting time in teacher education and in our program. We are forging new partnerships and deepening existing ones with Nashville area schools and community-based youth service organizations, providing extended opportunities for teacher candidates to learn the art and craft of teaching in and through practice. Our campus-based courses are closely coordinated with field experiences - not only engaging candidates with the knowledge and skills required to teach effectively, but also affording the time, space and support to reflect critically about theory and practice.

Why else might you want to join us?

  • As a student in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Peabody, you will connect with faculty whose work is at the  cutting edge of research and practice in learning, teaching and design.
  • Our partnerships schools and community sites provide a strong foundation in emerging practices that address issues facing urban schools.
  • Because more and more of our graduates have chosen to stay in Nashville, we are developing  a supportive network of local alumni who serve both as mentors and on our Advisory Board - ensuring that the voices of our newest graduates inform ongoing program development.

This website connects you to information about important dates, courses, current students, professional student opportunities, and logistics of enrolling at Peabody.

If you don't find what you are looking for, or if you think I can help in any way, please send me an email or give me a phone call (615-875-9027). I am eager to hear from you!

Warm regards,
Brian Kissel

What has been the highlight of your program thus far? Over the summer, my multicultural literature course took a field trip to the National Museum of African American Music Museum. We spent the morning exploring the museum and all of the interactive exhibits!
