We are happy that you have chosen to study with us and we are committed to making your academic experience meaningful and productive. Our core and affiliated faculty provide a rich and vibrant culture of learning through classroom instruction, research, and mentoring.

The HDC curriculum is designed to balance formal classroom instruction with supervised field experiences that serve to integrate theory with practice. Course offerings are typically scheduled in the late afternoon or weekends so that students can work full or part time. Our students are trained to use their counseling skills and knowledge to maximize the human potential of diverse clients. They are uniquely qualified to appreciate the contextual and life-long nature of human development.

The career opportunities for our graduates span a wide range of placements including private and public schools, mental health and social service agencies, private practice and organizations. Our alumni are making a positive difference in the lives of children, adolescents and adults through their work in a wide range of settings.

Students in the HDC program enjoy the many benefits that accrue from its affiliation with Vanderbilt University, a top-15 major research university, and Peabody College, listed among the top five graduate schools of education in the nation. The HDC program is a top 20 counseling program, and the highest ranked program in the country without a counseling doctoral program. You are now part of this exciting legacy and we are thrilled to count you among the talented and dedicated group of students who have lived, studied, and trained at Peabody.

In the coming weeks, you will receive detailed information about housing, financial aid, coursework, and campus resources. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can be of assistance as you become acclimated to the campus and Nashville. We look forward to getting to know you and answering any questions you may have.

There is no more important time to be involved in the challenges that face our schools, community agencies, businesses, and human service organizations. Our faculty and your outstanding peers can help prepare you to meet these challenges successfully.

Sincerely,

Bradley T. Erford, Ph.D.
