Community Outreach Specialist

Work-Study: Graduate Level Community Outreach Specialist The Child Studies Group (in the Department of Psychology and Human Development) is seeking a master’s level student to begin in the fall of 2024 to assist with their outreach and participant recruitment efforts. The position is ideal for a socially confident and outgoing individual who has, or is looking to gain, experience in community outreach.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Recruiting parents to learn more about our current studies through tabling at community events.

• Following up with families by phone and/or email.

• Managing a database of contact information for interested families.

• Identifying community events and coordinating participation.

• Coordinating communication across participating research laboratories.

• Strengthening and building community partnerships with organizations serving families with children.

• Web and social media management.

• Training and management of undergraduate assistants. 

Applicants ideally have their own reliable vehicle and would be willing to drive to and from events. Mileage costs will be reimbursed. Applicants should be comfortable and experienced in interacting with a diverse range of children and adult community members. This position is for the 2024-2025 academic year, with the possibility of continuation based on effectiveness and performance. Applicants must have availability during the daytime at least 2-3 days a week, as well as on occasional weekends. Experience with community outreach is preferred. Strong organizational, managerial, and communication skills are required.

The hourly pay will be $16-$18/hour depending on experience. The Graduate Assistant is expected to work at least 10 hours, but not exceeding 20 hours, weekly. The position is funded through Federal Work Study (FWS) , and only applicants eligible for this program will be considered.
