Peabody Center for Engagement Support
Teaching Assistant

EDUC 5100 class assists the newly admitted master-level international students at Peabody College in the Fall semester with their transition to Peabody College and Vanderbilt Community. This course provides an overview of contextualized concepts about the U.S. education history, social context, and policies, introduces organizational and interpersonal communication tools specific to the new learning environment, and prioritizes the interaction and community-building opportunities for international students across Peabody degree programs. We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to support the EDUC 5100 class in Fall 2024.

Responsibilities/Expectations

o Must be free on Friday mornings in the Fall semester.

o Help with lesson preparation, including but not limited to collecting materials, seating arrangement, and classroom setting up.

o Support course management on BrightSpace, monitor class progression, facilitate discussion, and conduct course evaluation for final report.

o Collect feedback from students and collaborate with the instructors to identify students’ issues and recommend solutions.

o Give extra help to students who need special accommodations or are struggling with a concept or language.

o Support the supervisor in the following activities as needed:

- Serve as contact liaison among offices, students, and the iMAP program.

- Create and design marketing materials for international events, and highlight the international community at Peabody.

- Plan, coordinate, execute, and assist with International students related events, such as new student orientation, cultural showcases, off-campus tours, and any upcoming new ideas

- Assist in administrative and logistical tasks as needed.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

• 2nd year Peabody Professional student.

• Excellent intercultural communication and people skills to engage multilingual and diverse student community, faculty, staff, and campus/community partners.

• Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, Outlook, and social media.

• Experience coordinating and managing programs and events of all sizes.

• Experience in the field of Higher Education and International Education preferred.

• Be flexible with working hours and location, as events may take place in the evenings, on weekends, and occasionally during academic breaks.
