Andrea Capizzi

Associate Professor of the Practice and Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Special Education

Andrea Capizzi, Ph.D., BCBA-D is an Associate Professor of the Practice and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Special Education. Dr. Capizzi has taught students with learning and emotional/behavioral difficulties in various elementary and middle school settings in urban and suburban schools, led a specialized program for Pre-K and Kindergarten-aged children with challenging behavior and their families, and served as a behavioral specialist for early intervention, elementary and middle school teams. Her past work in the practice of special education allows her to apply this knowledge and experience to her classes in teacher preparation and behavioral methods. Dr. Capizzi is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D) and has over 25 years of experience working with students with challenging behavior. She serves in several local and national organizations that are focused on serving the needs of students with disabilities and their families and teachers.

In her role at Peabody, Dr. Capizzi teaches courses to undergraduate and master’s students. She serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Special Education and advises special education majors in the High Incidence Program and all special education minors. Dr. Capizzi is also the Field Experience Coordinator for the High Incidence program and coordinates the undergraduate Honors Program in Special Education. Her research interests lie in the areas of teacher education and behavioral supports.  Dr. Capizzi is also currently the Chair of Peabody Faculty Council.
