Kara P. Mitchell

Kara Mitchell is a doctoral student in the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations in the K-12 Leadership and Policy Studies program at Vanderbilt University. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a second major in Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In her past professional and research experience, she worked with Texas Appleseed as a Southern Education Leadership Initiative Summer Research Fellow where her research focused on the School-to-Prison Pipeline in independent school districts in Texas. Additionally, she worked as a Client Services Associate at the Academic Benchmarking Consortium where she analyzed higher education financial data. Kara currently works as a Graduate Research Assistant with Dr. Jason Grissom. She is interested in researching student-teacher interactions, school disciplinary policy, and educational equity.
