The L&D program equipped me to understand that one of many lens of an educational designer is about 'reading' the complex system of the local context by being locally immersed while respecting the local history of practices.
Along with amazing people, my experience at Peabody was a transformative learning journey that made me rethink about the role of schooling.
The L&D program equipped me to understand that one of many lens of an educational designer is about ”reading” the complex system of the local context by being locally immersed while respecting the local history of practices. Another lens is about providing learners gates for places where they can have meaningful and genuine learning experiences that may help them to decide who they are becoming.
As the Director of Innovation at Domingos Sávio School (a k-12 school in Brazil), I have the opportunity and the challenge to rethink the school learning model with the local community. For that, I am designing a professional development program in which I aim to create conditions for teachers to reflect upon their own classroom practices and to build a stronger learning community. Further, I am designing a Math and Economics courses for middle and high school levels in a non-traditional format to not only feel the classroom floor as a teacher but also to allow teachers to use my classes as a resource for observations. The idea is to cultivate the culture of teacher observing other teachers’ classes. By doing so, I aim to fuel a community of practice among teachers in which they could work collaboratively to refine their own practices and consequently, the practices of the school as a community.
