Madeleine Lewis is a doctoral student in the Community Research and Action program at Vanderbilt University. They study community-led movements for land and housing justice, with a particular interest in reparative spatial justice and cooperative housing development. Lewis has previously worked on action research projects related to eviction court proceedings and limited equity cooperative housing. Since 2022, Lewis has worked as a graduate researcher on the Reparative Geographies Project, a multi-year public humanities initiative that examines and catalogs how local communities have sought to grapple with the legacies of slavery, colonialism, and racial segregation. Currently, they are working on a project related to the development of church-owned land and property for shared or alternative use.
