Mr. Shailendra Jha of Nepal joins the Humphrey Fellowship as a Member of the City Planning Commission at Kathmandu Metropolitan City. He began his career as an entrepreneur, launching capacity-building programs to enhance youth technology skills. In the last two decades, he has engaged himself in different capacities to improve educational access in remote areas. Bits ladder International. founded by him serves around 10,000 students in improving the quality education in Birgunj Metropolitan City, Jeetpur Simara Sub Metropolitan City and Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality. In his current role with the city government, he leads education, employment, and economic development programs serving over 300,000 students. The programs — such as Book-Free Friday, Skill in Education, the Teacher College Program, Assessment & Audit for the Intervention, Governance & Accountable Model, Special, Inclusive & Integrated School Model, Creative School and School Beautification — have significantly improved public school outcomes and sparked national-level discourse on educational governance.
Mr. Jha holds a master’s degree in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management in the Philippines, and a master’s degree in Information and Communications Engineering from the Central Hessen Technical University of Applied Sciences in Germany. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Tribhuvan University in Nepal.
Mr. Jha aims to explore educational leadership and evidence-based policy reform to build a scalable, sustainable model for improving learning outcomes in Nepal’s public schools at the provincial and national levels.
