
Veronica Atin

Dr. Veronica Atin of Malaysia joins the Humphrey Fellowship as a senior lecturer and Coordinator of the English Language Cluster at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), where she has served since 2000. In this role, she oversees the implementation of Malaysia’s national English Language Education Reform in alignment with CEFR standards and represents UMS in national-level discussions on English language education.
Her projects include partnerships with the Prison Department under the UMS Living Lab grant, equipping inmates with job readiness and communication skills. She also serves as a panel member for the development of guidelines for the Intensive English Programme (IEP) for higher education institutions in Malaysia, under Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), from February 2024 to December 2025. Her work supports efforts to enhance language proficiency and graduate employability across Malaysia’s tertiary education landscape.
Dr. Atin holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, a master’s degree in English Language Studies (Linguistics), and a bachelor’s degree in English Language Studies from the National University of Malaysia.
Her goal is to restructure the UMS’s English curriculum by promoting student-centered learning, aligning language instruction with workplace needs, and fostering international collaboration. She envisions creating engaging, workplace-relevant language programs that improve learning outcomes and reduce graduate unemployment, serving as a model for higher education transformation across Malaysia.
