Government and Community Relations
Special Projects and Communications Assistant

The student worker will serve as a GCR Special Projects and Communications Assistant. This position is a member of the Office of Vice Chancellor for Government and Community Relations. The role is open to undergraduate, professional and graduate students.

The student worker will have the following responsibilities:  

Special Projects:

- Support strategic projects and priorities by completing research and benchmarking reviews; compiling and analyzing data; and drafting summary reports, briefings and recommendations

- Support campus visits by government officials including pulling metrics and preparing briefings

- Assist with events including planning, coordination and execution

- Utilize Salesforce to ensure accurate data and reporting

- General office support

Communications:

- Assist with advancing the division’s strategic communication goals by assisting with social media management

- Monitor the division’s Hootsuite dashboard

- Engage/interact with internal stakeholder and external partner accounts

- Report on analytics from Hootsuite

- Assist with gathering data analytics for web and email communications

- Export and compile analytics from the division’s Emma email marketing platform

- Request and compile analytics for the division’s MyVU stories hosted on the Vanderbilt news site

- Draft social media posts for the division’s social media accounts as needed

- Draft occasional blog posts for the division website

- Create visual assets including graphics and videos using Canva templates

- Assist with occasional edits/maintenance of the division website

- Assist on other communications projects as needed

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

- Demonstrate an interest in and be willing to learn about Vanderbilt’s government and community relations priorities

- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism with an ability to appropriately manage sensitive information

- Strong knowledge of best practices for social media communications is necessary

- Strong writing and critical thinking skills are necessary

- Strong research abilities and comfortable using data to make informed recommendations

$17-20/hr; Pay is commensurate with student status
