Summer Research Assistant 8-10 weeks (start date flexible) 20-40 hours/week $12-20/hr depending on experience In person preferred, but some online work may be possible. Description: Want to be part of some cutting-edge learning technology projects? Join the Levin Lab this summer, where we're exploring innovative projects that blend cognitive psychology research and tech. You'll work on a mix of initiatives tailored to your unique skills and interests. One project uses Meta AI’s Segment Anything Model (SAM) to track objects in nursing simulation videos. You’ll be helping us figure out what nursing students are looking at during their simulation training—information that could help shape the future of how nurses are taught. It’s part of a larger project with Vanderbilt’s Masters of Nursing program, and your work will make a real impact. A second project implements technological supports in nursing training, and you will have the opportunity to work with nursing students as they complete their simulation training. Another project uses brain waves to track viewer responses while watching movies, and we may have opportunities to assist in these experiments. Key skills include a good attitude and attention to detail. Some of the projects involve stimulus coding that will require persistence and a willingness to spend a few hours per day doing basic tasks, but these will be mixed with more variety and interactive tasks where you can learn new skills and make creative contributions. Technical skills help, and they will allow you to participate in more projects, but if you are willing to work hard, we will be able to include you in other projects even if you don’t code. Also valuable is the willingness to continue working in the lab after this summer, applying the skills you have learned to research projects that can turn into theses, or other opportunities for independent study and authorship on papers. If you'd like to be part of a meaningful and innovative research effort, we'd love to have you! Send a CV that lists your skills, a list of any relevant classes you have completed in the behavioral and computer sciences, statistics, and data science, along with a description of your interests in working on the projects.
