Children's Learning Lab

In the Children's Learning Lab, we study how children learn and how to improve their learning. Our research focuses on learning of key concepts and problem-solving procedures in mathematics, with an emphasis on experiences that promote learning. For example, what roles do comparison or generating explanations have in promoting learning of concepts and procedures? We conduct this research in both laboratory and classroom contexts to better understand learning processes.

Prospective Students and Employees

Undergraduate students may work in the Children's Learning Lab for course credit. A weekly commitment of three hours per credit hour is required (six hours a week for two credits or nine hours a week for three credits). Students gain valuable research experience that is relevant to many future careers. It's also fun! People with Federal Work Study may work for pay.

If you are interested in working in our lab, contact Dr. Rittle-Johnson or one of her graduate students regarding openings. If openings are available, please download and read this paper, and use the coding scheme and these instructions to complete this short activity. When you are finished, please email us your work, let us know how many hours you're interested in working, whether you have Work Study, and what your research interests are. You will also need to fill out and turn in the Individual Learning Agreement Use these instructions for filling out the registration form. We'd love to have you!

Prospective lab coordinators are asked to complete these activities. You will need to download this paper and this worksheet. Thank you!

Prospective Graduate students are encouraged to contact Professor Rittle-Johnson directly and to access the Psychology at Vanderbilt website for information about the graduate program in developmental psychology.
