With our campus partners, Peabody strives to create community, address needs, and provide holistic support and advocacy for all international students and scholars at Peabody College.

Signature Programs

  • International Mentorship at Peabody (iMAP)

    The International Mentorship at Peabody (iMAP) program assists new international professional and graduate students in making a successful academic and personal transition to Peabody College and helps them acquire cultural knowledge, make new friends, and understand the campus resources available.

    The program mixes and matches new students ("mentees") with trained current students ("mentors") based on diverse backgrounds, interests, academics, and professional goals. New international students who participate in iMAP will engage with their mentors in various ways (e.g. Virtual, in person, group and one-on-one, zoom, emails and texts, etc.) through workshops, social gatherings, or campus events, etc.

    Mentors:

    Qualifications

    • Must be a Current 1st-year PBD prof/grad student, will graduate in spring 2024 or later
    • Have great interpersonal communication skills to relate to a diverse group with strong intercultural understanding and global engagement.
    • Possess knowledge regarding campus and community resources to share with mentees.

    Commitments

    • Attend mandatory training and other required program events.
    • Communicate regularly and effectively with mentees via social media, email, and/or text, Brightspace throughout mentees' summer and first semester.
    • Assist with the event planning and in the next spring admission.

  • U.S. Education Concepts & Communication (USECC)

    The US Education Concepts & Communication (USECC) program is designed to support incoming students who have a first language other than English at Peabody with the language skills and cultural knowledge necessary to benefit more fully from their academic program. This program combines advanced-level language instruction with orientation and cultural activities.

    Program Objectives:

    • Understand educational concepts in the context of the U.S. educational system
    • Communicate effectively in presentations and discussions
    • Develop confidence in participating in graduate-level academic discourse
    • Explore and utilize educational research tools

    In addition, this course provides an important introduction to U.S. education history, social context, and policies, as well as information specific to studying at Peabody.

Resources for International Students

  • International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)

    ISSS is the primary resource for non-immigrant students and scholars at Vanderbilt University. ISSS fosters the education and development of non-immigrant students and scholars to enable them to achieve their academic and professional goals and objectives. ISSS provides advice, counseling, resources, and advocacy regarding immigration, cross-cultural, and personal matters.

  • English Language Center (ELC)

    This center supports the university's internationalization, diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts through engaging English for Academic and Professional language instruction and targeted resources for international students, faculty, staff, and scholars who use English as an additional language. The ELC's goal is to help you achieve the most from your Vanderbilt experience by providing innovative, high quality, individualized English-language instruction.

  • International Tax Office (ITO)

    Vanderbilt’s International Tax Office is committed to the accurate taxation and reporting of payments to our foreign students, faculty, and other international visitors. We work hard to ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations, uphold institutional policies and support our campus community during their time with Vanderbilt.

    GEO is the office that coordinates all study abroad programs. GEO is committed to preparing global citizens by providing innovative and high quality international learning experiences that build on Vanderbilt University's commitment to academic excellence, global engagement and community service.

  • Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH)

    Vanderbilt University offers a graduate certificate in Global Health through VIGH. Graduate and professional students in all schools can register for VIGH courses through the School of Medicine. Upper-level undergraduate enrollment is subject to instructor approval.

  • Center for Latin American Studies (CLACX)

    CLACX is a research center at Vanderbilt University to stimulate research and teaching that examine the borders and intersections between Latinx, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies, enriching all through comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives.
