For those intending to become intervention specialists for children and adolescents with reading disabilities including dyslexia, math disabilities and persistent behavior challenges

Stresses field-based learning and experiences, with opportunities to participate in supervised research

Intervention specialists improve the lives of children and youth with learning and behavioral difficulties across a range of educational and community settings.

Of job-seeking graduates, 100 percent were employed or enrolled in graduate study within four months of graduation.

Certificate in Dyslexia Studies

Earned as part of a master's degree, this certificate provides graduate and professional students with the additional knowledge and skills required to support students with dyslexia.

Students learn about the challenges K-12 students with dyslexia may encounter and engage in administration and interpretation of instructional literacy assessments.

Prepare and implement evidence-based reading interventions for students with or at-risk for dyslexia and other reading disabilities.

Vanderbilt's Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center is a transitional school for students in grades 1-5 with or at risk for dyslexia and an innovative center for dyslexia research and outreach.

    The Barnes Research Lab focuses on supporting secondary students with reading comprehension disabilities and young children with or at risk for math disabilities. We study how cognitive and linguistic processes contribute to disabilities in reading comprehension and mathematics using a variety of methods including correlational and longitudinal studies, randomized controlled trials, and meta-analysis.

  • Education and Brain Sciences Research Lab

    The Education and Brain Sciences Research Lab (EBRL) seeks to understand why some children are successful at learning to read while others are not. Using neuroimaging and behavioral testing, our NIH and NSF funded studies investigate reading comprehension, Neurofibromatosis Type 1, and the effects of reading interventions in children with and without reading difficulties.

    The LLD research group is a team of educational researchers and practitioners dedicated to understanding and supporting elementary school students' language and literacy development. We collaborate with experts through research-practitioner partnerships with local schools, community-based language development programs, and state-level partnerships with the Tennessee Educational Research Alliance.

    Monster, P.I. is an app-based, gamified diagnostic assessment that measures written language skills (knowledge of morphology, vocabulary, and syntax) of 5th to 8th graders and provides teachers with interpretable score reports to drive instruction that improves vocabulary, reading, and writing abilities.
